OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University will host BYU on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark in the final contest between the neighboring schools this season. Both teams are slated to send freshmen right-handers to the mound with Jake Mayer set to go for the Wolverines and Maverik Buffo for the Cougars.

UVU (13-27, 9-9) plays its final WAC series at home this weekend when New Mexico State comes to Brent Brown Ballpark beginning Friday at 6 p.m. MT. Prior to Saturday's game, the seniors will be honored.

The Wolverines lost their second consecutive WAC series after winning three in a row. Grand Canyon won two of three in a series that featured one-run games in the final two contests.

Utah Valley lost two out of three over the weekend to Grand Canyon in a home WAC series. After rain halted play on Friday and the Wolverines down 6-5, UVU came back to tie the game once play resumed on Saturday. From there the Antelopes scored the final eight runs of the game to win 14-6.

The Wolverines scored five times in the sixth inning of game two, to turn a 5-1 deficit into a 6-5 lead, which held after Boyd Bell tossed the final 3.0 innings to pick up the save. In the finale, Grand Canyon edged UVU 4-3 to take the series.

UVU will enter league play this weekend tied for Sacramento State at 9-9 and in sixth place. The top six teams, not including Grand Canyon, qualify for the WAC Tournament in Mesa.

BYU is coming off of a big week, going 4-0 with a midweek win over rival Utah and a three-game sweep of West Coast-leading San Francisco in Provo. The Cougars (21-19) won the last two games of the series on walk-off wins, both in 10 innings.

BYU has won the first two meetings against Utah Valley, winning March 10 in Orem, 10-7, and April 7 in Provo, 15-6.  The Cougars have won the last three meeting in the series between the neighboring programs.
