Utah Valley University opens Western Athletic Conference action at Grand Canyon University on Thursday in the first of a three-game series at Brazell Stadium. Thursday and Friday the teams are set to begin at 7 p.m. MST/8 p.m. MT with Saturday's finale slated for an 11 a.m. MST/noon MT first pitch.

The Wolverines (11-11) were roughed up in a midweek contest at Arizona, 14-0, on Tuesday in Tucson.

UVU is coming off of a series win over the weekend at home against Minnesota. In that series Greyson Bogden batted .615 on his way to earning the WAC Hitter of the Week award on Monday.

Utah Valley and Grand Canyon (11-10) have met six times during the teams' first two seasons in the WAC with the Antelopes winning two of three in both 2014 (in Phoenix) and 2015 (in Orem).

GCU scored three ninth-inning runs to top UNLV, 10-8, on Tuesday in Las Vegas. Thomas Lerouge had four RBIs including the go-ahead, two-run single in the ninth.

The 'Lopes won last season's WAC regular season title and were also the preseason favorite to win it again, in a vote by the league's 10 coaches. Five GCU players were named to the preseason All-WAC team led by preseason Player of the Year Paul Pannacione.

Utah Valley was picked to finish sixth with Mark Krueger as the team's lone preseason All-Conference selection.

Up next, UVU will play at Utah in a Tuesday midweek contest before hosting North Dakota in its second WAC series of the season. The three-game set against UND begins Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. MT.
