Utah Valley University returns to Brent Brown Ballpark on Friday, opening a three-game WAC series against the University of North Dakota. The teams meet Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. MT and Sunday at noon MT.
The Wolverines (14-12) are on a season-high three-game winning streak after Wednesday's 7-6 win at Utah in Salt Lake City. The Wolverines came from three runs down midway through the game and then from two down in the eighth to defeat the Utes.
Justin Erlandson had an RBI triple followed by a two-run, go-ahead double from
Craig Brinkerhoff to put UVU in front in the eighth inning.
Jake Atkinson also tripled home two runs for the Wolverines.
Evan Fresquez picked up his first career win for UVU while
Matt Davidson pitched two scoreless innings, including a 1-2-3 ninth, to earn his first career save.
Last weekend, the Wolverines won two of three at Grand Canyon first conference series of the season. After falling 2-1 in 11 innings in the opener, UVU won 5-4 in 12 innings in the middle game and 6-3 in the finale to take the series over the WAC's defending regular season champion and preseason favorite Antelopes in Phoenix.
North Dakota dropped three straight at Sacramento State over the weekend, but all three games were one-run contests. The Fighting Hawks (3-13, 0-3) lost 1-0 in the opener, 3-2 in 11 innings in the middle contest and 4-3 in the finale.
UND opened the season winning two of three at then-No. 12 USC. Zach Muckenhirn struck out nine in a three-hit shutout in a season-opening 1-0 win over the Pac 12 Trojans. Muckenhirn has a 2.52 ERA on the season and is tied for the WAC lead with 41 strikeouts, one ahead of
Danny Beddes.
Utah Valley hosts Utah next Tuesday at Brent Brown Ballpark before continuing WAC play on Friday, April 8 against Northern Colorado in a three game series.
