Utah Valley University begins a seven-game homestand by hosting WAC co-leader Seattle University in a pivotal three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. MT. The middle game is slated for Saturday at 6 p.m. with the finale on Sunday at noon.

It's the second straight week that the Wolverines (21-16, 7-5) will face a WAC-leading team. Last week UVU took two of three at New Mexico State, who entered the series tied with SU atop the standings.

UVU is three games back of both Seattle (23-13, 10-2) and Sacramento State. NM State is in third a 9-3 in league play while UT Rio Grande Valley is just in front of the Wolverines with a 6-3 record.

Utah Valley has won three straight overall after outlasting Utah on Tuesday night in Salt Lake City in 10 innings, 12-11. The win gave the Wolverines their first season sweep of the in-state rival Utes. Craig Brinkerhoff hit his team-leading fifth home run of the year and had one of the team's six doubles on the night. Paul Estrada tripled home the go-ahead runs during a four-run 10th inning.

Utah scored three times in the bottom of the 10th but two baserunning mistakes allowed Utah Valley to secure the win. The second out was made after the runner slid past second base and the final out of the game came when the Utah baserunner attempted to take second on a ball in the dirt but was gunned down by Zac Willis.

Seven different players had two-hit games for UVU while Mark Krueger had one hit to extend his career-best hitting streak to 20 games, four shy of the school record. Greyson Bogden had one of the six Wolverine doubles on Tuesday and leads the WAC with 15 on the season.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS

The Redhawks won two of three at home over Grand Canyon last weekend before defeating rival Washington, 3-2, on Tuesday. Portland edged SU on Wednesday in Tacoma, Washington, 4-3.

SU boasts both the WAC's best team batting average (.302) and team ERA (3.31) while hitting a league-best 25 home runs and only allowing six as a pitching staff. Sheldon Stober in second in the WAC with a .376 batting average to go along with four home runs and 14 doubles and is tied with Bogden with a WAC-leading 53 hits.  Saturday's probable starter, Nick Meservey, leads the conference with a 1.37 ERA.
