Utah Valley University hosts CSU Bakersfield in a three-game WAC series that begins Friday at 6 p.m. MT at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem. Saturday's game is schedule for 6 p.m. and Sunday's finale is set for noon.
The Wolverines (22-18, 8-7) had their Tuesday contest against BYU rained out with a make up date of May 10. The Roadrunners (9-30, 4-10) dropped a midweek at Loyola Marymount, 7-3.
UVU currently sits in fifth in the WAC standings, two games back of third-place New Mexico State and 1/2 game behind UT Rio Grande Valley. Seattle U and Sacramento State are tied atop the standings at 12-3.
Utah Valley split four games last week, completing a three-game season sweep of in-state rival Utah before losing two of three to Seattle U. UVU won the opener, 9-8, but fell 5-3 and 1-0 in the final two games of the series.
In the opener against Redhawks, the Wolverines scored six times in the bottom of the third and held on late.
Zac Willis and
Spencer Gothberg homered in the win while
Kyle Valgardson earned his sixth save after recording the final four outs.
Prior's to Tuesday's loss at LMU, CSU Bakersfield won two of three at home against NM State. The teams each split a one-run game before the 'Runners won the finale, 8-2.
CSUB is the reigning WAC Tournament Champions and needs to make up three games, with 12 to go, to return to Mesa for the 2016 Tournament.
The Wolverines play at BYU next Tuesday at 6 p.m. MT before traveling to Sacramento State for a three-game series on the weekend.
