MESA, Ariz. -- Utah Valley University opens the 2016 WAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed and defending tournament champion CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT. The tournament is being held at Hohokam Stadium, spring home of the Oakland A's, in Mesa, Arizona.

The Wolverines (33-21) wrapped up their most succesful season as members of the WAC by sweeping Chicago State over the weekend to finish 18-9 in conference. The Roadrunners (18-35) come in as one of the hottest teams in the conference, winning eight straight league games, earning their berth in the tournament on the final weekend.

Utah Valley swept the three-game series between the teams at the end of April, winning by scores of 7-4, 11-5 and 10-1.

The Wolverines are slated to start Danny Beddes, who moved into first place by himself in the career wins record book with last Thursday's 8-3 victory over Chicago State. Beddes shook off a four-run first inning from the 'Runners on April 30, finishing with five innings on the mound to pick up the win.
CSUB is slated to start Isaiah Moten, who allowed four runs in three innings in the April 29 series-opener in Orem. Moten did not factor into the decision that night.

Utah Valley is 4-4 all-time in the WAC Tournament, having won its first three games in 2014 and advancing to the championship before falling to Sacramento State. The Wolverines won the opening game last season over Sac State before falling in their next two. Utah Valley is 16-6 all-time in conference tournament games.

Senior Craig Brinkerhoff has been named to the WAC All-Tournament Team in each of UVU's two tournament appearances. In 2015 he was 5-for-12 (.417) with a home run, double and five RBIs. In 2014, he went 7-for-19 (.368) with five doubles and nine RBIs. His two-year tournament totals are 12-for-31 (.387) with a home run, six doubles and 14 RBIs in eight games. He leads UVU this season with 10 home runs and is the first UVU hitter to reach double-digits in that category since All-American Goose Kallunki it a school-record 18 in 2012.
