UVU Series Notes

ON DECK
Utah Valley University continues its stretch of seven straight road games to open the 2017 season, with three scheduled at UC Davis over the weekend and the team's first midweek, at San Francisco next Tuesday.

THE FORECAST
According to Weather.com, the weekend series calls for low to mid 50's as highs with a 10 percent chance of precipitation.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines (0-3) were swept at Missouri Valley Conference opponent Wichita State to open the season, losing a pair of one-run contests sandwiched around a lopsided middle contest.

IN THE HOLE
Following Tuesday's game at San Francisco, UVU is schedule to open its home schedule in a four-game series at Brent Brown Ballpark against Indiana State. The series begins Friday, March 3 at 5 p.m. and runs through Monday's 3 p.m. finale. Saturday and Sunday first pitch are slated for 1 p.m.

NEWCOMER SUCCESS
Three newcomers lead Utah Valley in batting with freshmen Jake Berry (.429) and Kade Poulsen (.375) the top two averages after the opening series. JC transfer Jackson Overlund is third on the team after three games, batting .333 with a home run and three RBIs. On the pitching side, freshman Paxton Schultz had an impressive debut, retiring all nine hitters he faced while striking out four in the season opener.

FILLING OUT THE LINEUP CARD
Head coach Eric Madsen used 17 different position players during the series at Wichita State. By comparison, he used 15 different position players all of last season. Madsen started six players who weren't in the starting lineup in two of the three games last week, five of whom are newcomers.

ABOUT THE AGGIES
UC Davis has dealt with Mother Nature so far this season, seeing three of its five games either canceled or postponed, including Tuesday's scheduled home opener against Pacific. The Aggies went 1-1 in the two games they played in a tournament at UNLV, falling 6-4 to Saint Mary's and defeating UNLV 8-3. Jacob Thomas had a big weekend at the plate, going 6-for-9 with a home run, three doubles and three RBIs. He was 3-for-5 with a home run and three batted in in the win over UNLV.
