QUICK HITS
- Utah Valley split four games at Pacific over the weekend, dropping the first two games before winning the final two.
Â
- The teams both each scored 13 times over the weekend while UVU out-hit Pacific 29-21 during the four-game stretch.
Â
- Jackson Overlund, who had a three-run home run in UVU's win over USC on Opening Day, became the first player in nine years to hit for the cycle. In Saturday's 6-2 Utah Valley, Overlund homered in the second, singled in the fifth, tripled in the seventh and then completed the rare feat with a double in the ninth inning. It's the first cycle by a UVU player since Chris Benson did it during the 2009 season at Hawai'i.
Â
- Utah Valley had a successful weekend on the mound, combining on a 2.25 staff ERA during the four-game series at Pacific.
Â
- Jake Mayer pitched well for the second straight Friday, but took the loss after the Tigers shut out the Wolverines 4-0. Mayer went the distance though and matched his career-high with eight strikeouts.
Â
- Walker Ramsey made his first career start as a Wolverine on Saturday and notched his first career win in the process. Ramsey lasted 5.0 innings with just one unearned run coming in against him.
Â
- Two different Wolverine pitchers recorded saves at Pacific, with Ondrej Sebek getting a save in the 6-2 win after entering in the eighth with UVU in front 5-2. Freshman Drew Hill earned his first career save in Sunday's series finale. He pitched the final 1.1 innings, retiring each of the four hitters he faced.
Â
- Next week, UVU travels to Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 21 in this weeks DIBaseball poll.Â
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS
Texas A&M Corpus Christi enters this weekend's series having won six straight including three in a row athe Kleberg Bank College Classic last weekend. Those wins included victories over No. 21 Mississippi State (UVU's next opponent) and UCSB. Andriud Martinez was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week after homering at UTRGV and then following that up by going 5-for-11 with six RBIs in the Islanders' over the weekend.
After opening the season by taking two out of three at UT Arlington, the Islanders edged the WAC's UT Rio Grande Valley, 5-4, in Edinburg, Texas. On Wednesday they defeated Houston-Victora, 10-0. The series marks the first meeting between UVU and TAMCC.Â
