QUICK HITS
  • Utah Valley University continues its nine-game homestand with the second and final meeting of the season on Tuesday against BYU in the UCCU Crosstown Clash. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. MT from UCCU Ballpark with the game airing on UVU TV and the WAC Digital Network.
  • BYU (12-10, 2-4) won the prior meeting between the teams two weeks again in Provo, 9-3. UVU (9-12, 2-1) led 3-2 early before the Cougars scored the final seven runs of the contest.
  • The Wolverines won their second straight series, opening WAC play by taking two of three from Northern Colorado. UVU dropped the opener, 8-4, before scoring season highs of 15 runs in both ends of a Saturday doubleheader. Utah Valley scratched out a win in Saturday's first game, 15-14, before a 15-5 win in a game that ended in eight innings via the 10-run rule.
  • In the 15-14 win, Skyler Davis was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run in the ninth inning for the walk-off victory. Davis went 2-for-3 and reached base five times while also driving in three runs.
  • In the series-clinching finale, Trevor Peterson hit a grand slam while Ethan Payne and Michael Beltran also homered for the Wolverines. Peterson was 8-for-15 (.533) with the home run and six RBIs during the series while Ryan Eastburn went 6-for-11 (.545). UVU hit .387 as a team over the three-game span.
  • Utah Valley scored 19 runs combined in the second inning of both games of Saturday's twin bill. The Wolverines scored 10 runs in the first game and followed that up with nine in game two. The outburst came after UVU had scored just six runs all season in the second inning of the first 19 games of the season.
  • In Saturday's series-clinching win, three Wolverine pitchers combined to strike out a season-high 15 batters, which is one strikeout shy of the team record for strikeouts in a game. Starter Kaden Schmitt set a new career high with eight strikeouts over five innings of work while Paxton Schultz struck out four in two innings and Ondrej Sebek struck out the side in his inning of work.
  • The Wolverines host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in a three-game series starting Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday is also slated to start at 6 p.m. with Saturday's finale at noon MT. Following Easter Sunday, Utah Valley will Air Force next Monday and Tuesday.
