QUICK HITS
  • Utah Valley University returns to UCCU Ballpark this weekend for a three-game Western Athletic Conference series against CSU Bakersfield.

  • The series is scheduled to begin Friday at 6 p.m. with Saturday's game also at 6 p.m. and Sunday's finale at noon. All three games will air on the WAC Digital Network

  • The Wolverines look to rebound after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday at Utah. Prior to that, UVU was coming off of a series sweep at the hands of WAC-leading Grand Canyon over the weekend in Phoenix.

  • The Wolverines are currently 4-5 in WAC play and in sixth place, with the top six teams qualifying for the WAC Tournament in Mesa, Arizona in May.

  • Against the Utes, Jackson Overlund homered in the first inning and UVU led early but Utah scored 10 of the final 13 runs to pick up the in-state win. UVU and Utah will also meet next Tuesday at UCCU Ballpark.

  • At GCU, Utah Valley was limited to just two runs in each of the three games at Grand Canyon. All three starting pitchers gave the Wolverines a chance to win, but sandwiched between two 5-2 losses was an 11-2 defeat, with the Lopes scoring 10 times over their final three at-bats to win going away.

  • Next weekend, Utah Valley will travel to the Windy City to take on Chicago State in a three-game WAC series. That series begins a stretch of 10 of the next 11 games on the road.

ABOUT THE ROADRUNNERS
CSU Bakersfield enters the weekend at 10-21 overall and 1-5 in WAC play. Since winning the WAC opener at UTRGV on March 23, the Roadrunners have lost eight straight, five of those coming in conference play. CSUB was swept at New Mexico State last weekend, falling twice by scores of 9-3 and in the finale, 5-2. They also dropped at midweek to Cal Poly on Tuesday, 11-8.

Andrew Penner leads the team with a .350 batting average while game two's scheduled starter Naithen Dewsnap is 1-3 with a 2.77 ERA. Dewsnap has primarily served as the team's closer during his career and was a preseason All-American selection coming into the season. He made his first career start at CSUB in last week's middle game at NM State, allowing three earned runs on five hits in 5.1 innings.
