QUICK HITS

• Utah Valley University takes a break in WAC action and will play five games in four days starting with a four-game series beginning Friday at Saint Mary's in Moraga, California. The Wolverines will return home late Sunday and host Pac 12 Arizona on Monday at 6 p.m. MT at UCCU Ballpark.
   
• The series against the Gaels begins with a 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT first pitch before an 11 a.m. PT/noon MT doubleheader on Saturday. Sunday's finale is set to begin at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
   
• The Wolverines are coming off of a series loss in WAC play last week at Chicago State, dropping the last two games in the series. 
   
• UVU won the opener behind Jake Mayer's second career shutout, a 1-0 pitcher's duel in which the Wolverines scored the winning run in the top of the ninth on a triple steal with the bases loaded.
   
• The Wolverines have nine games left in WAC play starting at New Mexico State beginning May 4 in Las Cruces. UVU is currently tied for eighth and needs to move into the top six in order to qualify for the WAC Tournament at the end of May.

ABOUT THE GAELS
Saint Mary's won at Nevada, 11-6, on Tuesday night using a six-run second inning to build an early lead in the midweek win. Last weekend the Gaels took two of three at Pacific in West Coast Conference play and sit at 22-17 overall and 10-8 and tied for fourth in conference play. The Gaels sport a team ERA of 3.27 -- 24th in the country -- including game two starter Ken Waldichuk's 1.46 ERA, which ranks 14th nationally. He's 13th in the country with 87 strikeouts in 68 innings of work.

Utah Valley trails the all-time series 9-5 against the Gaels and is 3-5 against Saint Mary's in Moraga. The last meeting was during the 2015 season, a four-game series in which the Gaels won three of four. 

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Arizona plays at Utah over the weekend prior to making the trip to Orem. The Wildcats were swept by Stanford at home last weekend and are 23-15 overall and 6-9 in the Pac 12 entering the weekend. 

Monday marks Arizona's second trip to Orem, with the two teams meeting prior during the 2012 season. Utah Valley won that game against the then-No. 4 Wildcats for its sixth straight win during the 32-game winning streak that season. Arizona went on the win the College World Series later that season.
