- Utah Valley University travels to WAC favorite Grand Canyon for a three-game series beginning Friday in Phoenix. The Lopes, who are also the reigning regular season champions, currently lead the league after two weeks of play at 5-1 in the WAC. The Wolverines are 4-2 and tied for second with Seattle U.

- The Wolverines just finished a nine-game homestand in which they went 5-4 with four of the five wins coming in WAC play.

- UVU has won three straight weekend series, with the last two coming in conference action. They have dropped the opener of all three series only to come back and win the last two in each.

- Air Force and UVU split a two-game midweek series early this week. After the Falcons won the opener 12-6, scoring nine runs late, the Wolverines held off Air Force 5-4.

- In Tuesday's win against Air Force, Jackson Overlund, Paul Estrada and David Modler each homered while Drew Hill picked up his fifth save.

- Last weekend, Utah Valley dropped the opener of a conference series with UT Rio Grande Valley, 4-2, but came back with wins of 10-1 and 6-1 to win the series. All three games featured quality starts from Wolverine pitchers, with Jake Mayer matching his career high of 10 strikeouts in the opener. Walker Ramsey had his best start in a UVU uniform, lasting six innings and striking out five.

- In the finale, Kaden Schmitt tossed his first career complete game, striking out a career-high eight and later earning the WAC Pitcher of the Week award.

- UVU travels to Utah next Tuesday for a midweek contest with the Utes before a home WAC series against CSU Bakersfield beginning April 13.
ABOUT THE LOPES
Grand Canyon has won 11 straight WAC series dating back to 2016 after beginning the 2018 conference schedule with a three-game sweep of Chicago State at home before winning two of three at Northern Colorado last week. Against UNLV in a two-game home midweek, the Lopes scored three times in the eighth to win on Tuesday, 5-3 and got out to a commanding lead on Wednesday in a 10-6 win to sweep the two-game series from the Rebels.
Friday starter Jake Wong was rated as the No. 58 starting pitcher in the country by D1Baseball.com in its preseason power rankings. Wong is currently 4-1 with a 1.82 ERA. Offensively, GCU is hitting .285 as a team with Quin Cotton (.361), Pikai Winchester (.360) and Ian Evans (.356) leading the way.Â
