QUICK HITS
  • Utah Valley University closes out the 2018 season with four games this week including the home finale on Tuesday at 6 p.m. MT against the University of Utah. The game is a make-up of the originally scheduled game from April 17.

  • The Wolverines travel to Sacramento State for the final series of the season beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. MT. The teams play Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.

  • Freshman Drew Hill will make his second career start on Tuesday against the Utes, who will start left-hander Jacob Rebar. In his first start, Hill allowed just one run on six hits while striking out six against Arizona. In the first meeting this year between Utah and UVU, Hill pitched four innings of relief and surrendered four runs on six hits.

  • In their previous meeting, on April 10 in Salt Lake City, Utah prevailed 10-6 with a four-run fifth inning proving to be the difference. Jackson Overlund, who leads UVU with seven home runs, homered in that game in the first inning.

  • The Wolverines are coming off of a win over Seattle University in the final WAC home game of the year on Sunday. The win salvaged the series after UVU dropped the first two games in a Saturday doubleheader.

  • In Sunday's win, Kaden Schmitt went the distance, striking out a career-high 10 while allowing two runs on five hits to notch his second complete game of the season. It also earned him the WAC Pitcher of the Week honor for the second time this year.

  • Overlund was 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the win while David Modler had a pair of hits including a three-run home run during a five run fourth inning. Overlund hit a solo home run in the third and also a two-run double in the fifth on a 14-hit afternoon for Utah Valley.

  • Utah Valley did not qualify for the 2018 WAC Tournament next week in Mesa, Arizona. The top six teams will compete for the automatic NCAA bid, with five of the six spots already decided.

ABOUT THE UTES & HORNETS
Utah enters Tuesday game at 13-35 overall and 6-18 in the Pac 12 and is coming off a sweep at the hands of Oregon in Eugene. The Utes most recent victory came last Tuesday when they clinched the season series against in-state rival BYU, winning 6-3 to take three of four on the year. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. leads the club with a .378 batting average and also has three home runs and 21 doubles and is ranked among the Top 80 prospects in Division I baseball.

Sacramento State dropped two of three in a pivotal WAC series at Grand Canyon and is two games behind the Lopes and one behind New Mexico State in the race for the WAC regular season title. The Hornets, last season's WAC Tournament champions, are 28-22 overall and 14-7 in league play and boast the top team ERA in the league, at 3.82 overall. Pitcher Parker Brahms leads the WAC with a 2.21 ERA and has struck out 100 batters in 77.1 innings.
