Shimizu tied for third after 18 holes in Arkansas

As a team, UVU sits in a tie for 11th place in the tightly contested 17-team field with a 13-over-par 301.

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Senior Kaylee Shimizu is tied for third at 1-under-par after 18 holes of action at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic on Sunday at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. 
 
Shimizu fired a 1-under-par 71 to sit just two strokes back of the leader with two rounds to play. The Wolverine senior carded 15 pars, a pair of birdies and one bogey on her way to recording an opening-round 71. 
 
Sophomore Nathalie Irlbacher too had a strong opening round for UVU by firing a 2-over-par 74 on Sunday to sit in the top 20 in a tie for 18th place. Irlbacher also managed to card two birdies on the day for the Wolverines. 
 
Senior Kate Williamson and freshman Victoria Estrada are next, as they sit in a tie for 71st with a pair of 6-over-par 78s. Junior Bailey Henley rounds out UVU's competitors in the tournament in a tie for 78th place with a 7-over-par 79. 
 
As a team, UVU carded a 13-over-par 301 on the day to enter Monday's second round in a tie for 11th place in the tightly contested 17-team event. Just 10 strokes separate the Wolverines from Western Kentucky, who is currently leading the tournament at 3-over-par (291). Utah Valley also sits just one shot back of sixth place, as five teams are tied for sixth at 12-over-par (300). The Wolverines will enter Monday's second round tied with WAC foe Kansas City and Houston Baptist, as well as ahead Arkansas State (302), Central Arkansas (303), Stephen F. Austin (303) and the host Little Rock Trojans (303). 
 
On the individual leaderboard, WKU's Mary Joiner leads the way at 3-under-par (69), while Bradley's Taylor Ledwein is in second at 2-under-par (70). Shimizu is tied for third with a total of six players at 1-under-par.
 
Due to dense fog, the start of Sunday's opening round was delayed an hour-and-a-half.  


The Little Rock Classic will continue on Monday with the tournament's second round beginning at 7:30 a.m. MT/8:30 a.m. CT. UVU will begin teeing off at 9:20 a.m. CT/8:20 a.m. MT. The event will then conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring can be followed by visiting GolfStat.com.
