OREM, Utah – Utah Valley University baseball will head to Provo for a UCCU Crosstown Clash against neighboring rival BYU on Tuesday evening at Miller Park.Â

Tuesday's contest, which will mark the second and final season meeting between the neighboring foes, will begin at 6 p.m. at Larry H. Miller Field in Provo. The midweek non-conference contest will be streamed live on

Utah Valley will enter Tuesday's ballgame with a 15-25 overall record and tied for fifth in the WAC West Division with an 8-13 conference clip. Tuesday will cap a five-game road stretch for UVU, as it went 1-3 in Southern California last week. The Wolverines first dropped a 4-2 contest to UC Riverside on Wednesday before taking one of three at the two-time defending WAC champion California Baptist Lancers over the weekend. UVU first claimed Friday's series opener, 10-2, before falling in games two and three by respective scores of 10-1 and 12-2.Â

In Friday's opener at CBU,
Cole Jordan belted out a first-inning grand slam and
Devin Smith tossed six shutout innings of work en route to leading UVU to the 10-2 victory. With the bases full in the first, Jordan hit out his second grand slam of the year to give the Wolverines the early lead. UVU scored early and often in the contest, as it added runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and ninth frames on its way to victory. Smith was also great on the mound, as he struck out a season-high six batters and gave up just two hits over six scoreless innings of work to earn his first win of the year (1-2). With the grand slam, Jordan led UVU at the plate by going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a walk, and a run scored, while
Mitch Moralez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and
Garrett Broussard and
Kyle Coburn also scored twice in the game.Â

For the series at California Baptist, Jordan and Moralez led the Wolverines by each hitting an even .500. Jordan had a homer, five RBIs, and two runs scored, while Moralez tallied a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored.
Trey Cutchen was next by batting .333, while the right-hander Smith led UVU on the mound by going 1-0 with six K's and just two hits allowed and no runs over 6.0 innings. Fellow hurlers

Cameron Scudder also had scoreless outings from the pen for the series.

On the season, the senior outfielder Moralez fronts UVU with a .393 batting average, five home runs, 11 doubles, and 21 RBIs. Designated hitter
Spencer Olsen follows with a .333 clip and is tied for the team-high in homers with five as well as leads the way in slugging at .600, while Cutchen follows with a .308 average, a team-best 18 extra-base hits, 30 runs scored, and is tied for the team lead in both doubles (11) and homers (five). Both Moralez and Cutchen will also enter Tuesday having reached base safely in 19 consecutive games and will both look to make it 20 straight against the Cougars. From the mound, the right-hander Smith fronts UVU's starting rotation with a 1-2 record, a 4.93 ERA, and 29 strikeouts over 42.0 innings.
Josh Brown leads the way from the bullpen with a 3.80 ERA and four saves, while
Nick Sims leads the team in wins with a 5-1 record and has two saves and a 4.03 ERA.Â

Sophomore right-hander
Luke McCollough (2-1, 6.84 ERA) is scheduled to get his second straight midweek start for UVU on Tuesday and will face BYU RHP Jake Porter (0-0, 2.63 ERA) in his first start of the season.

BYU will enter Tuesday's game with a 21-16 overall record and a 7-8 West Coast Conference clip after dropping two of three at home to San Diego over the weekend. Prior to that Brigham Young fell in a midweek game at Utah last Tuesday but took three of four in a non-conference series at Nebraska the week before. The Cougars are currently in seventh place in the WCC standings. BYU was picked to finish second in the West Coast Conference this season after taking fourth last year with a 23-27 2021 record and a 15-12 league clip.

Ozzie Pratt leads BYU with a .307 batting average and is followed closely by Austin Deming with a .301 average. Deming also leads the way in extra-base hits with 15 and runs scored with 24. Brock Watkins follows with a .293 clip and also has 15 extra-base knocks and 24 runs scored. Watkins and Jacob Wilk pace BYU in homers with five while Ryan Sepede leads in RBIs with 28. Jack Sterner is Brigham Young's top starting pitcher with a 4-2 record, 2.38 ERA, and 51 strikeouts over 56.2 innings. Cooper McKeehan leads the way from the pen with a 1-0 record and a 1.08 ERA, while Reid McLaughlin has a team-high seven saves.Â

Tuesday's contest will mark the 43rd all-time meeting between UVU and BYU and the second and final of the season. The Cougars have won 12 straight ballgames between the neighboring foes after claiming a 12-5 victory in Orem last month. UVU's last win came on May 3, 2016 in a 7-6 extra-inning contest in Provo.Â

The Wolverines will enter the game with a 4-5 record on the season against in-state opponents. UVU is 3-3 against WAC foe Dixie State, 1-1 against Pac-12 foe Utah, and 0-1 against neighboring foe BYU.Â

The Wolverines will next host first-place and 25th-ranked Grand Canyon for a three-game WAC series Friday to Sunday at UCCU Ballpark. Friday's series opener is scheduled for 6:05, while Saturday and Sunday are set for 2:05 and 12:05 p.m., respectively. After the series, UVU will return to the Pacific Northwest to open a nine-game road trip at Washington State May 6-8.Â
