Box Score BELLEVUE, Wash. – Seattle University defeated Utah Valley 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Ballpark. Seattle (4-12, 2-4) held on after UVU (12-9, 1-2) attempted to rally late.
Seattle jumped out a 2-0 lead after a solo homer and a bases-loaded hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second. UVU tied it in the third after
Cameron Rowe reached on an error, and
Daniel Dickinson singled to right field to put runners on the corners. UVU put a runner in motion, and Rowe scored on an error as Dickinson stole the second.
Burke Camper grounded out to the second run home.
The Redhawks put UVU on the comeback trail after scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-2 lead. The Wolverines cut into the deficit in the sixth after a fielder's choice from
Matthew Schwarz while
Garrett Broussard reached on an error to put a pair of runners on base.
Nate Bach singled home a run to make it 8-3.
Utah Valley chipped in two runs in the eighth inning as
Calyn Halvorson walked and
Matthew Schwarz doubled to right field, scoring Halvorson to make it 8-4. Bach had his second RBI with a sac fly to make it 8-5.
UVU added one in the ninth on a solo home run from Dickinson, but the Seattle U bullpen secured the victory.
Bach and Halvorson finished 2-for-3, while Dickinson and Schwarz both had two hits.
The Wolverines return to the state of Utah and will play at BYU in Provo on Mar. 21 at 6:00 p.m. MT. Utah Valley welcomes Tarleton for a three-game WAC series beginning on Mar. 24 at 6:05 p.m. MT.
