OREM, Utah – Utah Valley baseball will meet in-state rival Utah for a pair of games this week. The first game is scheduled for Monday, Apr. 10, at 6:00 p.m. MT at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The two will meet on Tuesday, Apr. 11, at 6:05 p.m. MT at UCCU Ballpark.
Both games will be available on stream. Monday's will air on the Utah Live Stream, with an audio-only broadcast on gouvu.com. On Tuesday, the game will air on ESPN+. Live stats for both games will be on UVUstats.com.
The Wolverines are coming off a series at Sacramento State and fell to the Hornets in a three-game series. Utah Valley rallied on Thursday night in the ninth inning, scoring five runs in the ninth, including home runs from
Daniel Dickinson and
Trey Cutchen. UVU stranded the bases loaded with the tying run in scoring position.
On Saturday, UVU used a combined effort of
Devin Smith,
Nick Sims, and
Casey Anderson to hold the Hornets to five hits and pick up a 3-1 win. Anderson followed up his WAC Pitcher of the Week honors with ten strikeouts and is the first since Paxton Schultz to accomplish the feat. Cutchen had two of the three RBI to lift UVU offensively.
Utah Valley will now turn its attention to a home-and-home with Utah. The Utes (11-18-1) played No. 23 UCLA and saw the Bruins win the first two games of the series before a tie was forced in the finale due to travel. They are led by TJ Clarkson, who leads the team with eight home runs and 22 RBIs on the season. The pitching staff is coming off a season-high 15 combined strikeouts over the weekend.
The two teams will meet again on May 16 at UCCU Ballpark; the first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MT. UVU hosts WAC foe UTRGV in a three-game series this weekend, starting on Apr. 14 with a 6:05 p.m. MT start. The series continues on Apr. 15 at 2:05 p.m. MT and concludes on Apr. 16 at 12:05 p.m. MT.
