OREM, Utah – The Wolverines will play four games in four days beginning on Apr. 14 when it opens a three-game WAC series against UT Rio Grande Valley. The series starts with a 6:05 p.m. MT start on Apr. 14, continues with a game on Apr. 15 at 2:05 p.m. MT, and concludes on Apr. 16 with a 12:05 p.m. MT start.
Utah Valley will host Utah Tech on Monday, Apr. 17, at 6:05 p.m. MT. The contest is a non-conference game and will not count toward the WAC standings.
All four games can be viewed on ESPN+, with an audio-only broadcast on goUVU.com. UVUstats.com will have live stats available.
The Wolverines went 1-1 this week against in-state rival Utah. The Utes came out on top on Monday in a 10-8 contest at Smith's Ballpark.
Luke Iverson went 3-for-4 in the game, and
Calyn Halvorson had three RBIs. UVU pulled out a victory at home 6-5 on Tuesday.
Brandon Luna went 3-for-4, scoring the game-winning run on a triple by
Daniel Dickinson.
Chase Hennessey picked up his first win after tossing 3.0 innings, only allowing one hit.
UTRGV is 18-13 on the year and 6-6 in WAC play. They are led by Mississippi State transfer Brandon Pimentel, who is hitting .372 on the year with eight homers. Roberto Gonzalez and Isaac Lopez are both hitting over .330 on the season. The Vaqueros as a team are hitting .300. Starting pitcher Angelo Cabral leads the WAC in ERA at 2.35. Friday starter Jesus Aldaz is third at 2.84.
The Wolverines lead the all-time series against the Vaqueros 24-16. They haven't met since the 2021 season, when UTRGV won four of the five meetings, including a 5-4 victory in the WAC Tournament. It marks the first trip to Orem since 2018.
Utah Tech enters this weekend at 8-24 and 3-9 in the WAC. The Trailblazers are led by Shane Taylor, who is hitting .333 on the season. UTU leads the all-time series 11-7, but the Wolverines won last year's three-game series in Orem. The two teams meet the final weekend of April for a three-game WAC series at Bruce Hurst Field in St. George.
UVU IN CLOSE BALL GAMES
Utah Valley is currently 6-1 this season in one-run games. This includes victories over in-state rivals BYU and Utah. The Wolverines also have one-run victories over UC Riverside, Portland, Northwest Nazarene, and Tarleton.
3 WINS AWAY
The Wolverines are just three wins shy of the most wins in a regular season since 2016, when they won 37 games. UVU won the 2016 WAC Tournament and played in the Baton Rouge Regional.
TRIPLE WATCH
UVU is currently first in the WAC in triples (16) and is currently eighth in the country.
Luke Iverson is the WAC leader. On the season, the freshman has five triples, placing him in sixth nationwide.
EXTRA BASES
The Wolverines have had a successful season with extra-base hits. They are second in the WAC in doubles, with 72 on the season.
Patrick Mills leads the team with 11 doubles and seven home runs. The 2010 team holds the program record with 188 doubles in a season.
