Utah Valley hosts NM State in the final WAC home series

Box Score OREM, Utah – Utah Valley baseball wraps up the final WAC regular season home series this weekend when they host New Mexico State. The series begins on May 12 with a 6:05 p.m. MT start. The series continues on May 13 at 2:05 p.m. MT and will conclude on May 13 at 12:05 p.m. MT. UVU will honor four seniors and two support staff following the game on Sunday.
 
All games will air on ESPN+, with a live audio broadcast on gouvu.com. UVUStats.com will have live stats available for all three games.

"It will be an exciting weekend of baseball here in Orem. The weather will be perfect, and we have a solid conference opponent in town for a classic 3-game series," said UVU head coach Eddie Smith
 
The Wolverines are coming off a series win over Stephen F. Austin. UVU dropped the opening game by a 6-3 final score but came back to win on Saturday and Sunday. Daniel Dickinson hit three home runs in the series finale as part of a season-high five home run day by UVU. Brandon Luna finished with four hits, including a pair of homers.
 
On the hill, Ethan Fowlks made his first career start going 5.2 innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out eight Jacks. On Sunday, Casey Anderson followed suit striking out nine SFA hitters over seven innings. Utah Valley has won three of their last four conference series this season.
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
New Mexico State enters Orem (12-32) and 9-18 in the WAC. The Aggies lost in ten innings to   Utah in a non-conference contest last night. They are led by Interim head coach Keith Zuniga. Keith Jones II leads the Aggies offensively with a .377 batting average, hitting .474 in conference games. NM State has hit 62 home runs as a team, including a team-high eight from WAC Preseason selection Kevin Jimenez. On the mound, they will look to Trevjen Meza, who has made 12 starts of the year and has thrown 67.2 innings.
 
FOR THE LAST TIME
This weekend's match-up features the last time UVU will meet their regional foe in a conference series. The Aggies are set to move to Conference USA beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. UVU has not traveled to Las Cruces since the 2018 season. The two did meet in the 2019 WAC Tournament in Mesa.
 
ANDERSON EARNS SECOND WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARD
The Western Athletic Conference has named Casey Anderson the TicketSmarter WAC Pitcher of the Week. It is the second time that he has won this award this year. Anderson pitched seven innings, only allowing five hits this weekend in the 8-3 win over Stephen F. Austin. He allowed one earned run and struck out nine. He's tied for ninth in UVU history with 71 strikeouts in a season. 
 
ON DECK
Utah Valley will host in-state foe Utah on May 16 before their second trip to the Lone Star State to wrap up the regular season against UT Arlington on May 18-20.
