Wolverines close out the regular season with their first trip to UT Arlington

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley puts their season-high six-game winning streak on the line this week to close out the regular season with a three-game series at UT Arlington. It marks the first trip to Clay Gould Stadium for UVU and the first-ever matchup with the Mavericks.
 
The three-game series starts on May 18 at 5:35 p.m. MT and continues on May 19 at 4:35 p.m. MT before concluding on May 20 at 11:05 a.m. MT. All games will be aired on ESPN+, with live stats on UVUstats.com.
 
Utah Valley has won their last six contests, scoring 70 runs in the process. They tied the UVU school record for runs in a game with 25 in the opening game last weekend against NM State and won 25-15, and clinched the series with a 16-6 win in game two. The series finale went to UVU by a 5-4 final score. As a team, the Wolverines hit .380 for the series, as six different players hit homers to lead the offensive attack.
 
The bats stayed hot this week, as UVU won the season series with Utah after a 13-7 victory. Calyn Halvorson hit an eighth-inning grand slam to help UVU pull away from the Utes. It is the first series win over Utah since 2016.
 
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
UT Arlington is 25-25 on the year and 15-12 in WAC play. They are one of four teams that are tied for fourth place heading into the final weekend. Garrison Berkley leads the Mavericks with a .350 batting average this year. Freshman second baseman Ryan Black is currently a close second with a .345 average and leads UTA in homers (7) and RBIs (52). Friday starter Gabe Starks is 5-1 on the year with a 5.78 ERA and will look to bounce back after a tough outing against Sam Houston.
 
DICKINSON WINS TICKETSMARTER WAC HITTER OF THE WEEK
UVU Freshman Daniel Dickinson won his second TicketSmarter WAC Hitter of the Week award after hitting .727 against NM State last weekend. In the series opener, he hit four doubles to help lead UVU to scoring a season-high 25 runs. He previously won the TicketSmarter WAC Hitter of the Week for his performance during the games played April 17-23.
 
FIRST TIME MEETINGS
Utah Valley will meet UT Arlington this weekend for the first time in program history. It will mark the fourth opponent that UVU meets for the first time. This year UVU is (6-4) combined against the first-time foes.
 
SIMS AND SMITH EARN CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONOR
UVU junior pitchers Nick Sims and Devin Smith were named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Team. Sims just graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice, and Smith finished a Political Science degree. It is the first time that either one has been selected and just the sixth overall selection to the Academic All-District Team.

ON DECK
Utah Valley will return home before going to Mesa, Arizona, for the 2023 WAC Tournament. The opponent and first game are yet to be determined.
