ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley senior catcher
Burke Camper was named TicketSmarter WAC Hitter of the Week after leading UVU to a series win at California Baptist. It is the first time that he has won the award, and it's the second time this season that UVU was been given the honor.
"Burke had a tremendous week. We have been preaching since day one about the value of the walk and on-base percentage. Burke optimized that this week by getting on base 14 times for a .778 on-base percentage and adding a go-ahead home run in the 12th inning to win the series on Sunday," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
In nine official at-bats, the Allison Park, Pa. native recorded eight runs, with three of his five hits in the series going for extra bases, and holding a .556 batting average in the process with a home run and four RBIs.
Camper is the current career leader in on-base percentage with a .487 and moved into the Top 10 home runs in just two seasons in Orem. This year, he leads UVU in home runs with 17 and needs one to tie Goose Kallunki for the all-time program single-season record.
The Wolverines are in St. George for a non-conference matchup on Apr. 29 at 4:05 p.m. MT before starting a four-game homestand with Seattle U and BYU this weekend.
