ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Monday that UVU reliever Eli Sundquist has been named TicketSmarter WAC Pitcher of the Week for his May 5-12 performance. It is the first time that he has won the award this year.

"Eli came in very high-leverage situations twice this weekend and was electric in helping us secure two victories. He is a hard worker and tremendous teammate, so it is great to see these traits paying off," said UVU head coach Eddie Smith.

Sundquist made three appearances over the week, combining for five innings. He allowed only two hits and two walks. He struck out eight hitters while holding opposing batters to a .125 batting average.

He matched a career high at UVU with five strikeouts in his May 11 appearance against Tarleton State while allowing one hit over 2 1/3 innings to earn his first save of the season.

In his first appearance of the week against BYU, he used 14 pitches for one inning with two strikeouts. Then, he made his first of two appearances against Tarleton State, where he finished with 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit.

Sundquist and the Wolverines conclude the regular season against Grand Canyon University this weekend. The series starts on Thursday, May 16, at 6:05 p.m. MT.
