LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley won their weekend series at Tarleton State, fighting through adversity with four weather-related delays over the two days of action. The Wolverines hit .314 as a team, with Daniel Dickinson, Burke Camper, Jayden Smith, and Garrett Broussard all finishing over .400 in the series. Eli Sundquist came up with two strong pitching performances while striking out six in his two appearances, including setting a career-high five in one of the games. Ethan Fowlks gave a strong 3 2/3 innings without allowing a hit but fell victim to the weather, and the long delay forced him out of the game.

ABOUT THE LOPES
Grand Canyon enters Orem with a 32-20 record and is 21-6 in WAC play. They have secured the WAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament. GCU fell last night 8-7 to BYU over in Provo and are led offensively by Tyler Wilson, who is hitting .376 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs on the year. The Lopes are near the top of every offensive category in the WAC. On the mound, they have a team ERA of 4.33, with Grant Richardson and Utah native Isaac Lyon leading the rotation.

SUNDQUIST NAMED WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
UVU's Sundquist was named TicketSmarter WAC Pitcher of the Week after his three outings last week. He finished the week with five innings pitched and struck out eight hitters while earning a save.  He only surrendered two hits and two walks in the appearances while holding opponents to a .125 batting average.

WAC TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The Wolverines have clinched a spot in the WAC Tournament, but this weekend's result will determine the seed and opponent. The bracket is scheduled to be announced after games finish up this weekend. Tickets are on sale for next week's tournament, which will determine the automatic bid for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

HENNESSEY GOES FOR NCAA RECORD
UVU senior Chase Hennessey is in line to make his 25th start of the 2024 season. This feat would break the current NCAA single-season record for most starts in a season. The record was set by Florida State's Mike Loynd in 1986 and Ryan Halla of Auburn, who tied the record in 1996. The UVU starter broke UVU's record when he started his 18th game of the season and passed Danny Beddes, who had 17 starts in the 2016 season.

UP NEXT
Utah Valley will compete in the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament. The tournament will start on Tuesday, May 21, and run through Saturday, May 25. All games will be played at Hohokam Stadium, the Oakland Athletics' spring training home, in Mesa, Arizona.
