WICHITA, KS – The Wichita Sports Commission announced the 2024 Buster Posey Award semifinalists on Wednesday morning. Utah Valley's
Burke Camper was one of 16 named to the list. The award is given to the nation's top collegiate catcher. It is the first time that Camper has been a semifinalist but is a three-time watchlist nominee.
"Burke has had a phenomenal season for us, setting our all-time school record for walks and currently stands tied for our all-time school record for home runs. More importantly, he is a great leader on this team, and this award is a great recognition for his efforts," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
Camper was named First Team All-WAC earlier this week for the first time in his UVU career and is now able to add national recognition to his list of accolades this season. He has played in 53 games this season and leads the Wolverines with 18 home runs, 46 walks, 20 hit by pitch, and has a 1.142 OPS.
He was named TicketSmarter WAC Hitter of the Week earlier this year for his efforts against California Baptist, in which he reached base 14 times, including three hits that went for extra bases. Camper finished the weekend with a .556 batting average with a home run and four RBIs in the series win over then first-place California Baptist.
The three finalists will be announced on June 6, with those catchers being invited to Wichita for a ceremony on June 26.
Camper and the Wolverines will meet No. 2 Abilene Christian on Thursday, May 23, at 10:00 a.m. MT in the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Tournament.
