Utah Valley makes their first trip to Stephenville to take on Tarleton State

OREM, Utah—Utah Valley University baseball hits the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend as it heads to Stephenville, Texas, for a showdown with Tarleton State. It will mark the Wolverines' first trip to the Tarleton Baseball Complex. The series is crucial for both teams, which are currently tied for second in the WAC with Abilene Christian.

The series begins on Friday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. MT and continues with a game on Saturday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m. MT before wrapping up the weekend with an 11:00 a.m. MT start on Sunday, May 12. The series will air on ESPN+ with live stats on UVUstats.com.

SERIES HISTORY
Tarleton State holds a narrow 3-2 edge on Utah Valley after winning three out of four in the first-ever meeting in 2021 in Orem, but UVU beat the Texans 7-6 last year in a game that was played in St.George due to weather conditions in Orem.

ABOUT THE TEXANS
Tarleton State enters with a 25-24 overall record and is 15-9 in the WAC. Cole Miears leads the Texans at the plate with a .326 batting average, six home runs, and 36 RBIs on the year. On the basepaths this year, they have stolen 82 bases as a team and are led by Ike Shirey with 18 and Tyson Drake with 14. Fuller Smith is in his first year as the skipper at Tarleton State after serving stints as an assistant at Sam Houston, UT Arlington, and Ole Miss.

SUCCESS IN TEXAS
The Wolverines have had success when playing schools from Texas. UVU has won six of its last eight series against teams from the Lonestar State. They have split a pair of series this year in Texas with a series win over UTRGV but fell to Abilene Christian.

DICKINSON IS NO. 3
Daniel Dickinson does not just wear No. 3, but this week, he was named the third-best second baseman in the country by D1Baseball after 12 weeks of the season. Finishing ahead of the UVU sophomore were Oregon State's Travis Bazzana and Tennessee's Christian Moore.

CAMPER TIES THE HOME RUN RECORD
Burke Camper hit his 18th home run of the season this past weekend against Seattle U. He is currently tied for the single-season home run record with Goose Kallunki, who set the record in 2012. Dickinson is two back Kallunki's record as the chase continues to be UVU's single-season home run leader.

The Wolverines have set a new UVU record for home runs in a season with 98. The WAC has not had a team hit 100 homers since 2010, when New Mexico State hit 104. The conference sits at 161 set by BYU in 1988.

UNIVERSITY CREDIT UNION WAC TOURNAMENT
The Wolverines have officially clinched a spot in the UCU WAC Baseball Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz. The action begins on Tuesday, May 21, and will continue all week until the Championship game, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 25. The full bracket will be announced after the regular season concludes.

UP NEXT
Utah Valley will close out the regular season with a three-game series at UCCU Ballpark against first-place Grand Canyon. The series will start on Thursday, May 16, at 6:05 p.m. MT.
