DALLAS – Utah Valley second baseman
Daniel Dickinson was named NCBWA District 8 Co-Player of the Year on Friday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He shares the award with Jay Thomason from Air Force.
The UVU sophomore adds to his impressive list of accolades that include WAC Preseason Player of the Year, Dick Howser Semifinalist, and an All-WAC First Team; earlier this week, he earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honor.
"Daniel has been the key piece in our lineup for the last two seasons, and this recognition is a tribute to his amazing production for us," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
Dickinson finished 2024 leading UVU in batting average (.367), slugging percentage (.661), and hits (90). He tied Goose Kallunki and
Burke Camper for the most home runs in a single season with 18. Earlier this year, the two-time All-WAC selection went 32 for 37 in stolen base attempts this season, and now he has 42 stolen bases in 49 attempts in his career. He holds both the single-season and career stolen base records.
The NCBWA's membership, including writers, broadcasters, and publicists, voted on the award. The organization, founded in 1962, was designed to promote college baseball.
Dickinson will spend the summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League, where he will suit up for the Harwich Mariners. They will start their season on Friday, June 14, against Cotuit.
