OREM, Utah — Utah Valley head softball coach Cody Thomson has announced the promotion of Shelby Shurtliff to assistant coach after spending the 2024 season as the program's volunteer assistant coach.
"I'm excited to promote Shelby to a full-time assistant position," said Thomson. "Shelby helped our team improve tremendously last year and I can't wait to see what she can do next season."
Shurtliff was on staff for the momentous 2024 campaign that saw the Wolverines win their most games since 2013 and post the second-best WAC win percentage since joining the league in 2014.
Prior to Utah Valley, Shurtliff spent four years on staff at USU Eastern in Price, Utah, including the last three seasons as the head coach. Shurtliff played two collegiate seasons — one at Salt Lake CC and one at USUE — and helped lead the Bruins to a SWAC title and a berth in the NJCAA National Championship in 2017. At USUE, she earned All-SWAC honors in 2018.
A native of Santaquin, Utah, Shurtliff prepped at Payson HS where she earned All-Region honors her final three seasons. Shurtliff earned her Associates degree from Salt Lake CC.
