OREM, Utah – Team Green defeated Team Black 10-2 on Thursday afternoon at UCCU Ballpark, clinching the Wolverine World Series title. Green will go for the sweep on Friday afternoon in the series finale.

Kaden Carpenter led the way for Green, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Green struck first in the top of the second inning after Will Applegate reached on a fielding error and later advanced to third on a groundout. Jayden Smith put his team ahead 1-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Black responded in the bottom of the inning when walks to Trenton Rowan and Jimmy De Anda put two runners aboard and Jet Jones brought in the tying run with a groundout.

The game remained tied until the fourth inning, when Carpenter singled through the left side to score Joseph Barnhardt and Liwai Correa, giving Green a 3-1 lead. A four-run fifth inning helped Green pull away, highlighted by Carpenter's three-run home run to deep right-center field that made it 7-1.

Carpenter homered again in the sixth inning, another three-run shot that extended the lead to 10-1.

Black added a run in the bottom of the seventh when DJ Massey doubled down the left-field line and later scored on Brody Block's ground-rule double to left-center field.

Green's pitching staff, led by Quinn Holt and Jacob Heppner, held Black hitless through most of the game.

The Wolverines wrap up the fall season on Friday, Oct. 31, with a 2:05 p.m. MT start at UCCU Ballpark.
