OREM, Utah – Utah Valley head baseball coach
Nate Rasmussen has announced the promotion of
Mitch Moralez and
Kevin Mitchell, adding new responsibilities to their roles within the baseball program.
Moralez, who works with UVU's infielders and serves as the baserunning coordinator, will now be the assistant recruiting coordinator. He will work alongside
Paul Gehring, who remains the program's recruiting coordinator. In his first season back in Orem, two of Moralez's infielders signed professional contracts, with
Landon Frei (West Virginia) and
CJ Colyer (Billings) advancing to the professional ranks.
"
Mitch Moralez is one of the bright young minds in college baseball," said UVU head coach
Nate Rasmussen. "He continues to grow daily, and his impact on our program is loud. I would be absolutely thrilled to be recruited by him and Coach Gehring."
Moralez joined the UVU staff in July 2024 after finishing a professional playing career with the Westside Woolly Mammoths and the Billings Mustangs. Before his professional career, he played three seasons in Orem, including his final season under Rasmussen's tutelage.
Mitchell will continue to serve as the director of baseball operations, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the UVU baseball program since July 2024. In his first season, he managed logistics during Utah Valley's WAC Tournament run and was heavily involved in planning the Wolverines' NCAA Regional trip, where they upset No. 12 Oregon for the program's first NCAA Tournament victory.
An experienced coach at both the high school and collegiate summer levels, Mitchell will now help develop the UVU pitching staff as the director of pitching development.
"
Kevin Mitchell has been a bright mind in the background of our pitching development," Rasmussen said. "It only feels right that we give a title to the impact he's had on our program. Our development is better with him in it."
Before arriving in Orem, Mitchell coached at both the high school and collegiate levels, including leading the Medicine Hat Mavericks of the Western Canadian Baseball League to the division title in 2024 after being named WCBL Coach of the Year in 2023.
