5/4/2025 2:47:00 PM

ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley baseball fell in the series finale to UT Arlington, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark. Luke Iverson recorded three RBIs in the game and extended his on-base streak to 46 games. Jayden Smith had two hits for UVU (27-21, 12-9). UTA (17-27, 9-9) rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the sweep.

Jacob Heppner retired the first six Maverick hitters he faced before UTA threatened in the third inning. Still, the UVU lefty navigated the situation with a groundout and flyout to keep the game scoreless.

After the Wolverines put runners on second and third with less than two outs in the third, they broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning with a three-spot. Brody Block took the second pitch of his at-bat against UTA starter Joe Steeber and lined one into left field before Nate Bach reached on an infield single to put two runners on base. They loaded the bases after a pitch hit Jimmy De Anda to extend his reach base streak to 38 games.

The first run came on a sac fly by DJ Massey to make it 1-0 in the fourth, but Iverson provided the big hit of the inning when he lined a double down the right field line to plate two runs and make it 3-0.

Utah Valley loaded the bases in the sixth inning after taking advantage of free passes. Block worked his second walk of the contest before De Anda was hit to end Steeber's day. The first hitter UTA reliever Rhys Stevens faced was Massey, who worked a seven-pitch walk to load the bases. The Wolverines added their run on a sac fly from Iverson for his third RBI of the game and put UVU in front 4-2.

UT Arlington shot right back and tied the game up at four before Parker Airhart's double gave them their first lead at 5-4. Heppner (4-2) took the loss but pitched five innings with three strikeouts for the Wolverines. Four of his last five starts have gone at least five innings for the UVU southpaw.

Carston Herman tossed two innings of relief for the Wolverines with five strikeouts, which is the most this year in WAC play, and Cooper Littledike pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

The Wolverines trailed 7-4 in the top of the ninth and looked to get something going with Iverson's single, but Smith hit a hard line drive right at the UTA shortstop for the first out before Frei added a single to left field. UT Arlington closer Caden Noah got the final two outs to earn his fourth save of the year with his three-inning outing.
