Box Score STANFORD, Calif. – Utah Valley fell 15-6 to Stanford University on Monday afternoon at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. UVU (10-13) was led by a 3-for-3 effort from
Brody Block, with a home run from
Kaden Carpenter. Stanford (11-12) used an eight-run second inning to complete the sweep with Jimmy Nati going 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the series finale.
The Wolverines struck first after Carpenter singled and came around to score on an RBI double by
Mason Strong to make it 1-0. Strong later scored to put UVU up 2-0 on an RBI single from
Chipper Beck.
In the top of the second inning, Utah Valley loaded the bases, but the Cardinal came up with a double play and a flyout to keep the game at 2-0.
The Cardinal scored eight runs in the second inning to take an 8-2 lead. Utah Valley got a run back in the top of the third inning when Carpenter hit his sixth home run of the season to the opposite field, traveling 372 feet. He is now tied for his career high in a season, when he hit six for Utah during his sophomore campaign.
The Wolverines trailed 11-3 in the top of the fourth inning when extra-base hits were produced, starting with a double by
Jayden Smith, who scored on an infield single by
Hunter Katschke. Katschke then scored on an RBI double to left-center by Carpenter to make it 11-5. Utah Valley loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth inning after an infield single from
Brody Block and Beck working a walk.
Mason Hamlin was at the plate but grounded out to end the inning.
Katschke continued later and drove in a run in the sixth inning with an RBI double to left-center to score Smith, who hustled home from first base. It is his fifth straight game with an RBI, and he has now driven in a run in six of the last seven games.
Cohen Baack and
Chance Wallace each worked scoreless innings of relief today for the Wolverines.

Utah Valley will play its next four games at UCCU Ballpark, starting with a three-game series this weekend with Cal State San Bernardino, before welcoming Utah for the first of three midweek matchups with the Utes on Tuesday, March 31.
