UVU Begins Four-Game Road Swing with Matchup at Utah

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley baseball opens a four-game road trip Tuesday night at Utah in Salt Lake City. The game will mark the Wolverines' first visit to Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.

Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+ with veteran play-by-play voice Bill Riley alongside former Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg. The game will also air on 103.9 and 98.3 ESPN The Fan, as well as on the app, with Jordan Bianucci and Brice Larson on the call.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST UTAH
The Wolverines hit a season-high four home runs in the last meeting with the Utes, as Hunter Katschke, Jayden Smith, Derek Houston and Chipper Beck all went deep. Utah Valley trailed 4-2 before Katschke's home run put UVU ahead 5-4, and Mason Strong extended the lead to 6-4 with an RBI double. Utah later regained the lead. Houston and Smith each homered in the eighth inning to tie the game at 9-9 before a six-run ninth inning sealed the contest for the visitors.
 
Cameron Gurney homered and drove in four runs to lead Utah, which had four players finish with two or more RBIs.
 
SCOUTING UTAH
Utah enters the game 20-15 and swept Texas Tech over the weekend in Salt Lake City. Cal Miller was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after his performance against the Red Raiders. He is batting .351 with four home runs and 22 RBIs. Jake Long leads the Utes with a .378 batting average, followed by Jet Gilliam at .370 and Cameron Gurney at .368.

Utah Valley travels to Stephenville, Texas, this weekend for a three-game WAC series against Tarleton State. The Texans received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll this week.
