LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines hit three home runs Tuesday night in Salt Lake City against the Utah Utes, jumping out to a 4-0 lead behind back-to-back homers from Chipper Beck and Kaden Carpenter. Utah rallied, however, for a 16-9 win. Hunter Katschke hit his team-leading 17th home run of the season. Derek Houston went 3-for-5 at the plate, while DJ Massey added a 2-for-3 performance. Carter Seely provided three strong innings in relief, helping set up a seventh-inning comeback attempt. It marked a career-best outing for the transfer right-hander, who also recorded a strikeout.

SCOUTING THE TEXANS
Tarleton State enters the weekend 25-15 overall and 5-4 in WAC play. The Texans took two of three from California Baptist and have begun receiving votes in the NCBWA poll. This season, they defeated then-No. 2 Texas, 6-1, in Austin and narrowly fell to No. 7 Arkansas. Rayner Heinrich leads the offense with a .366 batting average, along with eight home runs and 34 RBIs. Fellow preseason All-WAC selection Slade McCloud is hitting .349 and leads the team with 35 RBIs. Matthew McCollough and Ethan Wendel are expected to anchor the starting rotation. In the bullpen, Anthony Treto has recorded five saves in 34 1/3 innings across 16 appearances, while Ethan Jaques has two saves in 29 1/3 innings.

CHASING A RECORD
Katschke has 17 home runs this season and needs one to tie the program's single-season record and two to break it. Burke Camper, Daniel Dickinson, and Goose Kallunki share the current mark of 18. Camper reached 18 in 157 at-bats over 44 games, while Katschke has 142 at-bats through 37 games.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines return home next weekend for their second-to-last home series of the 2026 season, hosting California Baptist for a three-game set beginning Friday, May 1, at UCCU Ballpark.
