UVU baseball to host BYU in midweek matchup

OREM, Utah  — Utah Valley baseball is set to host Brigham Young University on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:05 p.m. MT. It will be the first of two meetings this season between UVU and BYU. The second is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, at 6:05 p.m. MT at Larry H. Miller Field.

Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+ and on the radio via 103.9 and 98.3 ESPN The Fan, with Jordan Bianucci and Brice Larson on the call. The game will also be available on the station's app. Live stats can be found at GoUVU.com/stats.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley won its weekend series at Cal State Bakersfield. The Wolverines opened with a 14-4 victory before securing the series with a 5-4 win in the second game. The Roadrunners rallied to take the finale Saturday. Chipper Beck finished the series 5 for 12 with two doubles. Kaden Carpenter went 5 for 14 and stole three bases. Jacob Heppner started Saturday and pitched five innings with four strikeouts. George Albrecht and Ray Hernandez delivered strong starts Thursday and Friday, while Bradley Gilbert, Aaron Rice, and Cooper Littledike provided key long relief appearances.
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
BYU enters with a 14-16 record, matching Utah Valley, and is 5-7 in Big 12 play. Ezra McNaughton leads the team with a .379 batting average, nine home runs and 34 RBIs. Easton Jones has 10 home runs and 24 RBIs. Jones is the son of UVU alum Mitch Jones, the first alum to reach the major leagues. As a team, BYU is hitting .280.
 
On the mound, the Cougars have a 6.72 ERA following their series at Baylor. Multiple pitchers are expected in the midweek setting. Nate Gray leads the staff with a 5-5 record and a 5.50 ERA. Pleasant Grove native Brayden Marx started last week's midweek game against Kansas State.
 
UP NEXT
Utah Valley opens WAC play on the road Friday at Sacramento State. The three-game series begins at John Smith Field at 7 p.m. MT and continues through the weekend. UVU will then travel to Colorado Springs for a two-game series against Air Force.
