OREM, Utah — Utah Valley head baseball coach Nate Rasmussen has announced that Director of Baseball Operations and Pitching Development Kevin Mitchell has accepted a position at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In his new role, Mitchell will serve as the Chargers' pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
 
"Kevin was an instrumental part of our conference championship and regional victory in 2025," Rasmussen said. "His imprint has been made on our program, and we will miss him dearly. The Wolverine family is extremely thankful for Kevin and Katie and their time here in Orem."
 
Mitchell came to Utah Valley and made an immediate impact, helping coordinate the day-to-day operations of the baseball program. His responsibilities included planning and executing the Wolverines' appearance in the 2025 WAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, just the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
 
Ahead of the 2026 season, Mitchell earned a promotion that expanded his responsibilities with the pitching staff. In addition to his duties as director of baseball operations, he took on a larger role in pitching development and assisted pitching coach Kyle Treadway with the Wolverines' pitchers.
 
At Alabama-Huntsville, Mitchell will look to strengthen the Chargers' recruiting efforts and pitching staff following a 21-24 season in which the team posted a 16-17 record in Gulf South Conference play.
