OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University Baseball closes out its 2009 home schedule with a pair of games against in-state foes. The Wolverines (12-28) host BYU on Monday night at 6 p.m. and Utah on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Senior Night. Both games can be heard live at WolverineGreen.com.
UVU ended a six-game losing streak last Tuesday, holding off Southern Utah 8-7. Bill Burgess had his second grand slam of the season in the win and Justin Smith pitched into the ninth and has now won his last four decisions.
Smith (5-3, 5.86) is Monday's scheduled starter for the Wolverines with the Cougars' probable starter Nathan Bunch (3-2, 4.94). Senior Jory Jensen (2-4, 6.19) is expected to start on Tuesday against Utah.
BYU defeated Utah Valley, 12-5, earlier in the year in Provo in the only other meeting between the neighboring schools this season. The Cougars lead the all-time series 12-4 with all four Wolverine wins coming at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem.
UVU and Utah have split two games, both in Orem. The Wolverines won the last meeting, 8-2, on a night when four pitchers combined to two-hit the Utes.
Following Tuesday's game, Utah Valley will play a four-game series at Northern Colorado beginning Friday afternoon.
