OREM, Utah -- UVU Baseball travels to Dallas Baptist this week for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The teams will also play Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
The Wolverines (16-30) have won a season-high three straight after taking three out of four at Northern Colorado. It was a banner weekend for several players offensively. Four different Wolverines had at least 10 hits in the series, led by 13 from Jace Brinkerhoff, who ranks in the top 10 nationally in both batting average (.446) and hits (83).
Billy Burgess had 10 hits over the weekend including three in each of the three UVU wins. Combined with the two mid-week games, Burgess hit .615 (16-for-26) with three home runs and 18 RBI on his way to being named the Great West Player of the Week and to the College Baseball Foundation's National All-Star Lineup.
Goose Kallunki had the best weekend of his freshman season, going 10-for-15 with his first career home run over the final three games. Chris Benson, who has a nine-game hitting streak, also had 10 hits.
Justin Smith was 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, earning wins over BYU and Northern Colorado to earn the Great West Pitcher of the Week award.
Dallas Baptist is 32-13 after dropping two out of three at No. 14 Texas A&M. The Patriots swept a three-game series from the Wolverines in Orem in Mid-April.
DBU is among the national leaders with a team batting average of .349 and 86 home runs. The Patriots hit 14 against UVU in Orem including five by Ryan Goins, who has 18 on the year.
UVU will play cap the 2009 season with a four-game series at Hawai'i beginning Thursday, May 14.
