Utah Valley University travels to Pac 12 Arizona for a Tuesday match up slated for 6 p.m. MST/7 p.m. MT at Hi Corbett Field.
The Wolverines (11-10) and Wildcats (13-6) last met during the 2014 season, with the teams splittling a two-game midweek series in Tucson. After dropping its first 15 games in the all-time series to Arizona, Utah Valley is 3-2 in the last five meetings.
UVU won two of three against Minnesota over the weekend in Orem.
Greyson Bogden had a big series, batting .615 with three multi-hit games. He also had three doubles in the middle game of the series, a contest in which
Danny Beddes pitched into the ninth of a 3-2 win.
In Sunday's rubber match, the Wolverines scored a season-high 15 runs in a 15-6 win to take the weekend series and earn a split of the four-game season series -- the Gophers won a prior meeting on opening weekend in Surprise, Arizona.
In the finale,
Ryne Edmondson hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs while Bogden,
Mark Krueger and
Spencer Gothberg each had three hits. The bottom three hitters in UVU's order --
Jake Atkinson, Edmondson, and
Jordan Schlehuber combined to drive in nine runs. Leadoff man
Trevor Howell also had three RBIs for the Wolverines.
Arizona opened Pac 12 play at Washington and dropped two of three. The Wildcats won the finale behind a 19-hit performance, 17-7. Tuesday will mark Arizona's sixth game against a team from the WAC. They are 5-0 so far with three wins over Sac State, and one over both New Mexico State and CSU Bakersfield. The Wildcats are 8-1 at home so far this season.
