Utah Valley University and the University of Utah meet on the diamond for the first of three games this season between the in-state foes on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MT at Smith's Ballpark. The two will also play at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem next Tuesday, April 5.

The Wolverines (13-12, 2-1) took two of three from defending WAC champion and preseason favorite Grand Canyon last weekend in Phoenix. UVU dropped the opener in 11 innings before a 12-inning win in the middle game and a 6-3 victory in the finale to take the series.

In the Wolverines' 12-inning, 5-4 win, Stone Ramsey went 3-for-5 and Mark Krueger drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 12th. Kyle Valgardson earned the win after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the 12th. Danny Beddes started and lasted into the ninth and struck out a season-high nine batters.

In the finale, Trevor Howell's two-run double gave UVU a 3-0 lead before GCU rallied to tie the game. The Wolverines scored three times in the seventh though, on a Ramsey single followed by a two-run home run from Krueger, his third of the year.

Utah is off to a hot start in Pac 12 play, winning road series at both Oregon and, most recently, Arizona State. The Utes (8-13, 4-2) were no-hit in the middle game at ASU, but won the series by scoring 10 runs in their final two at-bats to win the finale, 16-7.

UVU and Utah will also meet on April 19 in Salt Lake City. The Utes hold a 27-19 all-time series advantage and have won two straight. Utah is also 15-7 against Utah Valley at home.

Utah Valley returns to WAC play this weekend when North Dakota comes to town for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. MT. That game begins a seven-game homestand and a string of 14 out of 18 games at home for the Wolverines.
