UVU Series Notes

ON DECK
Utah Valley University returns home for the first time in nearly a month for a three-game WAC series against Sacramento State beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. MT. The game will air on the WAC Digital Network and is the start of seven of the next eight games at home at Brent Brown Ballpark. Game two will be Friday at 6 p.m. MT with the series finale on Saturday at noon MT.

IN THE HOLE
Utah Valley will take a break from league play next week, with a midweek contest in Las Vegas at UNLV next Tuesday and a weekend home series against Incarnate Word. The home series runs Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines enter this week on a four-game winning streak after winning at midweek at in-state rival Utah and sweeping a three-game road series at UT Rio Grande Valley to open conference play.

Patrick Wolfe had two saves and a win last week, earning the senior left-hander the WAC Pitcher of the Week award. Wolfe is tied for the league lead and is 33rd nationally with five saves. Jackson Overlund had a big week at the plate, going 7-for-13 overall including a 5-for-5 day in the middle game at UTRGV. Overlund's 12 doubles lead the WAC and rank 12th in the country.

UVU won the opener, 4-3, coming from behind with a pair of run in the seventh and eighth innings to erase a 3-0 deficit. Zac Willis drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly. In game two, Overlund's day, paired with a three-run home run by Luke Jacketta, helped lead to a 7-4 victory. In the finale, it was Willis' two-run home run in the 10th that helped propel the Wolverines to the sweep.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Sacramento State enters this week's series at 12-11 overall and 0-3 in WAC play. The Hornets suffered a sweep at Northern Colorado last weekend before picking up a 9-1 win over Pacific on Tuesday night. Sac State led by five runs entering the ninth of Sunday's finale at Northern Colorado but surrendered six runs in the bottom of the ninth for the improbable comeback.

Thursday starter Justin Dillon sports a 1.93 ERA in six starts and limits opposing hitters to a miniscule .121 batting average. Earlier this season, he pitched a no-hitter against Northern Kentucky, striking out 13 against just one walk. He followed that up with 6.0 shutout innings of one-hit baseball against No. 11 Washington in a 7-1 win.

SERIES HISTORY VS SAC STATE
Utah Valley and Sac State have met 35 times prior to this weekend's series, with the Hornets winning 20 of those match ups. Since joining the WAC in 2013, the Wolverines are 6-7 against Sac State including taking two of three last year on the road. UVU is 4-2 all-time at home against the Hornets.
