LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley comes into Tuesday's game having won two straight to secure a home series win against Incarnate Word last weekend. After dropping the series opener in game one of a doubleheader on Friday, 6-4, the Wolverines came back to win 5-0 and 11-8 to clinch the series.Â
In the 5-0 shutout, junior right-hander Jake Mayer had the best start of his career, allowing just three hits while striking out seven. It was his first career complete game and shutout and the team's first individual shutout since the 2014 season. Jake Berry hit his first career home run in the win and drove in two runs. David Modler also had two hits and two RBIs.
In the rubber match, the Wolverines used an eight-run fourth inning to build a big lead and held on late. Jackson Overlund had two, two-run doubles and leads the WAC and is 10th nationally with 15 doubles on the season. Trevor Peterson hit his second home run for UVU while Marco Briones came out of the bullpen and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. Patrick Wolfe entered on the mound with two outs in the ninth and the tying run at the plate but got a groundout to second to end it and notch his seventh save.Â
