ON DECK
Utah Valley University returns home to Brent Brown Ballpark for a weekend, non-conference series against Incarnate Word, out of the Southland Conference. The series schedule has changed from its original time due to impending weather, with the teams now playing a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. MT. The time of the series finale, expected on Saturday, is still to be determined.

IN THE HOLE
UVU wraps a string of seven out of eight games at home next Tuesday when in-state foe BYU makes the short trip to Orem. Tuesday's contest is the first of three between the neighboring schools and begins at 6 p.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley dropped a midweek contest at UNLV on Tuesday, 10-2. Jackson Overlund drove in one of the two Wolverine runs with a second-inning home run, temporarilty tying the game at 1-1. It was Overlund's fourth home run of the seaon and second in as many games.

Last weekend, UVU hosted Sacramento State in a three-game WAC series The Hornets took both ends of a doubleader on Friday, 9-1 and 12-4, before the Wolverines came back to win the finale on Saturday, 7-6.

In the third and final game of the series, Sac State jumped ahead on two different occasions but both times the Wolverines answered. Trailing 2-0 after the top of first, Overlund tied the game with a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the first.

After the Hornets pushed two more across in the third, Zac Willis responded with a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4. Later, with the game knotted at 5-5, Kade Poulsen delivered what turned out to be the game-winning RBIs, on a two-run home run to give UVU a 7-5 lead.

Paxton Schultz came out of the bullpen and was solid, tossing five innings in relief and striking out a career-high seven batters to pick up his first career victory. Patrick Wolfe notched his sixth save of the year with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Incarnate Word (14-16) ended an eight-game skid on Tuesday, outslugging Texas Southern, 17-9, in its highest-scoring output of the season. The Cardinals are 4-8 in Southland Conference play, where they compete against Utah Valley's former Great West Conference foe, Houston Baptist.

Kyle Genenbacher is batting .398 to lead UIW while three other regulars are batting above .300 including Mark Whitehead, who has swiped 14 bases in 15 attempts so far in 2017.
