No. 4 seed Utah Valley opens its WAC Tournament against No. 5 seed Northern Colorado. It's the first time the two teams will meet in the WAC Tournament.
Utah Valley is the defending tournament champion after going 4-0 last year and advancing to its first NCAA Regional.
UVU is in its fourth season as members of the WAC and has qualified for the WAC Tournament each season.
While this is the first meeting between UVU and NC in the WAC Tournament, the two met as members of the Great West Conference in the 2010 tournament championship, a 4-3 Wolverine win in 10 innings.
The Wolverines are 3-0 in WAC Tournament openers all-time.
UVU was represented by one player on the 2017 All-WAC teams with closer Patrick Wolfe named to the second team relief pitcher spot. Wolfe was a two-time WAC Pitcher of the Week and has a single-season school-record 11 saves.
The Wolverines have just five position players on this year's roster with prior WAC Tournament experience. The five have combined to have just 57 total at-bats. Eight pitchers have appeared in past tournaments.
Wednesday starter Jackson Cofer is 1-0 with a 0.61 ERA in two WAC Tournament starts. The Wolverines have won both games he's started. He's totaled 14.2 innings, allowing one earned run on 11 hits while striking out 11.
