HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Utah Valley University senior
Kaylee Shimizu is leading the way for the UVU women's golf team, as she sits in a tie for 14th place after two rounds of play at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
After opening with a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday, Shimizu then carded a 3-over-par 75 on Monday to drop 11 spots into 14th place. The Wolverine senior added a trio of birdies on Monday to give her a total of five after 36 holes of play. Shimizu currently holds a 2-over-par 146 through two rounds of action.
Sophomore
Nathalie Irlbacher is next for UVU, as she sits in a tie for 38th place with a 6-over-par 150. Irlbacher has carded rounds of 74 and 76 on her way to holding a 6-over 150. Junior
Bailey Henley and senior
Kate Williamson are next for Utah Valley, as they are both tied for 79th place at 13-over-par (157). Both Henley and Williamson have fired rounds of 78 and 79 en route to sitting at 13-over. Freshman
Victoria Estrada rounds out UVU's competitors at the tournament by currently sitting in 84th place at 15-over-par (78-81—159).
With only 12 strokes separating one through 17 on the team leaderboard after Sunday's opening round, the Wolverines dropped six spots into 17th place in the tightly contested 17-team field after carding a 20-over-par 308 on Monday. Through two rounds, UVU holds a 33-over-par 609 after opening with a 301 on Sunday. Despite being in 17th place, just 11 shots separate the Wolverines from being in the top 10 at the event.
Western Kentucky leads the event with a 1-over-par 577 (291-286), while Bradley is in second at 6-over (295-287—582) and UTEP is in third at 9-over (300-285—585). At 33-over, UVU sits just four strokes back of Stephen F. Austin for 16th place (605), five back of WAC foe Kansas City for 15th (604), six back of the host Little Rock Trojans for 14th (603), seven back of Lamar for 13th (602) and 10 back of Houston Baptist and Missouri State for 11th (599).
UTEP's Valeria Mendizabal is atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under-par after firing a 7-under-par 65 on Monday (71-65—136).
