ST. GEORGE, Utah – Junior
Keila Baladad led the way for the Utah Valley University women's golf team at the BYU at Entrada Classic by tying for 18th place with a 13-over-par 229 on Monday and Tuesday at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club in St. George.
After opening with a 5-over-par 77 and a 1-over 73 on Monday, Baladad then capped the tournament with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday. She also finished with an impressive tally of 10 birdies over the 54-hole to post the fourth-most birdies at the tournament.
Sophomore
Nathalie Irlbacher also finished in the top-30 at the event by tying for 27th with a 17-over-par 233. Irlbacher fired rounds of 77, 80 and 76 on her way to tying for 27th. Junior
Bailey Henley, who was playing the field as an individual, too finished in the top-30 by tying for 30th with an 18-over-par 234 (76-79-79).
Senior
Kaylee Shimizu (78-82-75) as well as freshmen
Victoria Estrada (78-76-81) and
Lauren Taylor (79-74-82) rounded out UVU's competitors at the event by all tying for 36th with 19-over-par 235s.
As a team, UVU finished in eighth place out of 12 teams with a 60-over-par 924 (310-303-311). The Wolverines finished ahead of Wyoming (+65), Portland State (+72), in-state foe Southern Utah (+74) and Boise State (+87).
North Texas won the tournament with an 11-over-par 875 (290-283-302), while Iowa took second (+30) and the host BYU Cougars finished third (+35). Northern Illinois took fourth (+50), Idaho (+55) and Princeton (+55) tied for fifth and Santa Clara finished seventh (+57).
North Texas' Lauren Cox claimed individual medalist honors by winning the tournament at even par. Cox carded scores of 72, 69 and 75 on her way to posting the 216.
The tournament marked UVU's second and final event to be held in the state of Utah on the season.
The Wolverines will next head to Hawaii to take part at UH's Anuenue Spring Break Classic at The Bay Course at Kapalua Resort in Lahaina on March 23-25. The Fresno State Classic will then follow, March 30-April 1 at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, California.
