OREM, Utah – All eight former Utah Valley baseball players currently playing professionally are now in action, competing across various leagues and organizations throughout the United States. The month of May marked the start of independent league play, along with
Mitch Mueller's debut with the FCL Twins.
Paxton Schultz – Buffalo (AAA)
Stats: 0-0, 8 apps, 17 2/3 IP, 24 SO, 4 BB
Schultz was optioned back to Buffalo on Monday but spent part of May with Toronto. He made six appearances for the Blue Jays from May 24 to June 8, including two starts. In his first big league start, he tossed 2 2/3 innings and recorded four strikeouts against the Texas Rangers on May 28. He owns a 1-3 record in 20 2/3 innings for Buffalo, striking out 22 hitters in nine appearances.
Casey Anderson – Hillsboro (High-A)
Stats: 3-5, 10 apps, 43 2/3 IP, 41 SO, 23 BB
Anderson is coming off one of his best starts since joining the Hops in April. He threw 5 1/3 innings—his second-longest outing of the season—and was just one out shy of tying his High-A career high. He struck out a season-high seven Spokane Indians (Rockies) in the outing. Hillsboro currently leads the Northwest League by one game heading into the first-half stretch.
Mitch Mueller – FCL Twins (Rookie)
Stats: 1-0, 4 apps, 10 1/3 IP, 14 SO, 2 BB
Mueller, who signed with the Twins in March, has made four appearances for their Rookie-level team. His longest outing came May 3, when he went four innings, allowing five hits and striking out four against the Red Sox. He earned the win in that appearance and followed it with solid performances of three innings, two innings, and 1 1/3 innings (May 22), striking out two against the Pirates.
Patrick Mills – Billings Mustangs (Pioneer League)
Stats: 17 GP, .343 BA, 2 HR, 10 RBI
Mills is in his second season with Billings and is off to a strong start, batting .343—which would mark a career high if sustained. The Kokomo, Indiana, native went 4-for-6 last week against the Northern Colorado Owlz and posted three multi-hit games in the series.
Garrett Broussard – Windy City ThunderBolts (Frontier League)
Stats: 25 GP, .159 BA, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Broussard is returning from injury and off to a slow start at the plate. However, he hit his first home run of the season and notched a two-hit game. He also made his professional pitching debut, retiring the only batter he faced. He recorded hits in three of his five games last week.
Calyn Halvorson – Gateway Grizzlies (Frontier League)
Stats: 3 GP, .250 BA, 0 HR, 1 RBI
Halvorson played three games for the Grizzlies after being traded from Milwaukee (American Association), recording a hit in each game against the Evansville Otters. He tallied his first RBI with Gateway on May 10. He was placed on the 60-day injured list on May 13.
Drew Sims – Glacier Range Riders (Pioneer League)
Stats: 4 GP, .200 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBI
Sims opened the 2025 season by driving in four runs during a 2-for-5 performance on opening night against Great Falls. He was sidelined shortly after but recently returned to action, going 1-for-4 in a 6-4 win over the Oakland Ballers on June 7.
Cole Jordan – Ogden Raptors (Pioneer League)
Stats: 16 GP, .290 BA, 1 HR, 13 RBI
Jordan has continued his strong play from his rookie season. The California native has seven multi-hit games, including his first home run of the year on May 28 against the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers. He opened June with a productive series in Boise, logging multiple two-hit, two-RBI games.
