OREM, Utah --
Utah Valley University will travel to Northern California this week to face WAC leader Sacramento State in a three-game series beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT.

The Wolverines (14-20, 7-5) enter the weekend in a tie for fifth in the league while the Hornets (22-14, 10-2) have a two-game lead over Grand Canyon despite dropping the series to the `Lopes over the weekend in Phoenix.

The Wolverines saw their six-game winning streak snapped last Friday in the series opener at home against Texas-Pan American. The Broncs then clinched the series with a win in the second game, on Saturday, to snap a streak of three straight series wins for UVU.

In Sunday's final game the Wolverines led 8-2 before surrendering seven runs in the top of the eighth to trail 9-8. UVU responded by scoring six times in the bottom half of the inning, capped by a three-run home run by Jordy Hart.

The Hornets won at rival UC Davis on Tuesday, 15-7. Sac State has the top batting average in the WAC at .281 and ranks second in team ERA among all conference teams. They've also hit a WAC-best 22 home runs, led by seven from league leader Rhys Hoskins, who homered on Tuesday.

UVU and Sac State have met 22 times prior, with the Hornets holding a 13-9 series edge. The teams have split the last six meetings over the last two seasons with both teams winning two of three him home series. In 2012, Sac State won the opener of a series in Orem in what was the last loss before the start of the Wolverines' 32-game win streak.

Utah Valley hosts in-state rival Utah next Tuesday at 6 p.m. before opening a WAC series against Northern Colorado on Friday, April 25.
