OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University hosts defending WAC champion and league favorite Sacramento State in a three-game league series beginning Friday night at Brent Brown Ballpark. Friday and Saturday are both scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. MT with Sunday's contest, which also airs on the WAC Digital Network, slated for a noon first pitch.

The Wolverines (10-20, 6-3) and the Hornets (18-13, 6-3) are both tied for third, with Northern Colorado, one-third of the way through the conference season. This weekend's series is a rematch of the WAC Tournament championship, where Sac State twice defeated UVU by identical 10-3 scores to earn the league's NCAA Regional bid.

The Wolverines dropped a in-state midweek game on Tuesday at BYU, 15-6, to snap an overall four-game winning streak. Kade Andrus had two hits and two RBIs and also robbed the Cougars of a three-run home run by going over the left-field wall to make a highlight-reel catch in the third inning.

Utah Valley has won four straight WAC games and two consecutive league series including a sweep of Chicago State last weekend. In that series, the Wolverines won the three games in different fashions: UVU won the opener 16-3 in seven innings with the 10-run rule in effect; in the middle game, the Wolverines erased a 5-0 deficit to come back and win on Andy Perkins' walk-off single in the ninth inning; and in Saturday's finale, UVU lost an early 6-0 lead only to pull away late to earn the sweep.

Sac State was swept at Seattle U last weekend, catapulting the Redhawks into first place. Seattle won two of the three games by one run and limited Sac State to just five runs in the series. The Hornets defeated UC Davis, 4-2, on Wednesday in a non-conference midweek contest. Sac State boasts the top pitching staff in the league, holding a team ERA of 2.72 which ranks 18th nationally. The Hornets rank fourth in the country in WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) at just 1.02.

The Wolverines play at Utah on Tuesday, April 14 before traveling to Colorado for a three-game WAC series at Northern Colorado next weekend and a single non-conference game at Air Force on Monday, April 20.
