Utah Valley University travels to Sacramento State this week for a three-game WAC series that figures to have major postseason implications. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT with Saturday's contest at 2 p.m. PT and Sunday at noon PT.

The Wolverines (26-18, 11-7) are coming off of their second win over a ranked foe following Tuesday's 7-6 victory in 11 innings over in-state riva and No. 26 (NCBWA) BYU. Justin Erlandson had three hits including the go-ahead home run in the 11th inning. He also singled to lead off the ninth and scored the tying run to force extra innings.

Jake Mayer pitched the final three innings and allowed just one hit and an unearned run. UVU had a series of pivotal defensive plays including a diving catch by Mark Krueger in the first inning that saved at least one run and an over-the-shoulder catch on a shallow pop up by Trevor Howell that kept the potential winning run off the bases in the 11th.

The win was UVU's fourth straight after a weekend sweep of CSU Bakersfield, matching the season-high for consecutive wins. The Wolverines hit five home runs during the series against the 'Runners.

Sacramento State (25-19, 12-6) has lost five in a row overall including all three in a conference series at New Mexico State, allowing the Aggies to move into second in the WAC and dropping the Hornets to third. Utah Valley is one game behind Sac State in fourth place. Seattle U leads the league, two games in front of NM State. The Hornets fell at UC Davis on Tuesday, 8-2.

Nine games remain in the WAC regular season. This weekend's slate of games also includes the top two teams facing off with Seattle U at New Mexico State. The top six teams qualify for the 2016 WAC Tournament at Hohokam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

With the first two games against each other split so far the season, the Wolverines play the rubber match against BYU next Tuesday at home at 6 p.m. MT. It's a make up of the scheduled April 26 contest that was postponed due to rain. Utah Valley will play its final home series of the season, against UT Rio Grande Valley, beginning Friday, May 13.
