OREM, Utah – Utah Valley baseball will work with former big leaguer Brandon Guyer who retired in 2020 and now runs Major League Mindset. Guyer was selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft by the Chicago Cubs out of the University of Virginia.
Guyer started Major League Mindset after retiring. He provides mental performance training for baseball and softball players across the country.
"Having Brandon Guyer work with our players is a resource that our program will see great benefits from. In my first year in coaching, Brandon was a very talented outfielder for our team at the University of Virginia. What stood out most about Brandon was as intense of a competitor as I have ever been around. He used this talent and competitive fire to forge a very successful Major League career. He attributes much of his Major League success to his mastery of his mindset. This is an untapped frontier in baseball performance, and having him share some of the skills and strategies that can help us have a Major League Mindset will be incredibly beneficial for our players," said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
Guyer played seven years in Major League Baseball with stints with the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians and was a member of the 2016 American League Championship team for Cleveland. He was a Minor League Baseball Organization All-Star in 2010, 2011, and 2013, a Double-A All-Star with the Tennessee Smokies in 2010, and a Triple-AAA All-Star in 2011 with the Durham Bulls.
Utah Valley will open the 2023 season on Feb. 17, 2023, on the road against UC Davis before hosting BYU on Feb. 28, 2023.
Eddie Smith begins his second season as the skipper for the Wolverines, who will look to build off the 19-37 season a year ago.
